CATHERINE (nee Paflitzko) ZUKA (Kate) passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 comforted by family at her son's home in Newark, Delaware after a long struggle with congestive heart failure. Catherine lived her entire life in Garfield, New Jersey where she was born on November 16, 1916, daughter of the late John and Mary (Bolcarovic) Paflitzko. She was pre-deceased by William M. Zuka, her husband of 65 years, in June 2003.
Catherine retired from the Union Camp Company, Clifton, New Jersey in 1982 after 20 years of service. She was a devoted member of Most Holy Name of Jesus Slovak National Catholic Cathedral in Passaic, New Jersey where she was a member of the Rosary Society and President of the Women's Guild for many years.
Catherine is survived by her son Ron (Gerry) Zuka of Newark, Delaware and daughter Maryann Zuka of Garfield. She is also survived by grandchildren Valerie (Jeff) Conkey of Newark, Delaware; David Zuka of Wilton, NY; and Michael (Melissa) Zuka of Newark, Delaware. Also surviving are great-grandchildren Taylor, Ben and Joshua Conkey, Alyssa Zuka and Brendan and Dylan Zuka; sisters Helen Nardone and Irene (Robert) Makri and a special niece, Denise (William) Makri-Werzen as well as countless nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Heartland Hospice, especially Jeanaye and Elaine, for their gentle care and compassion during Kate's final days.
Funeral Services will be 9:15 am Monday from Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 515 Lexington Ave., Clifton and 10:00 am at Most Holy Name Slovak Catholic Cathedral, 99-101 Fourth Street, Passaic, NJ 07055. Interment will follow in East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton, NJ. Visitation on Sunday, May 15 from 2 – 6PM.
